LCDS Honors Veterans with Heartfelt Celebration

A Heartfelt Celebration of Service: LCDS Comes Together to Honor Our Veterans with Art, Music, Tradition, and a Campus Filled with Pride and Gratitude
Loudoun Country Day School once again delivered one of its most beloved traditions on November 11: our annual Veterans Day Celebration. The energy on campus was unmistakable as students, faculty, families, and veterans came together to honor service and sacrifice.

In the weeks leading up to the event, students prepared with enthusiasm. Under the guidance of Visual Art Teachers Shannon Rood and Diane Wikel, they created powerful artwork honoring veterans. Performers rehearsed tirelessly with Performing Art Teachers Amie Roos, Sonja Jewell, and Camilo Perez Mejia, while others decorated the campus with flags and handmade cards. Parent volunteers and the Maintenance Team worked early and tirelessly to make the day shine.

The celebration began with a warm veterans’ breakfast, followed by the grand procession led by Mr. Norm Weaver, our beloved bagpiper. The entire student body lined the route, cheering as veterans made their inspiring entrance into the MPR.

Inside, the program opened with the Pledge of Allegiance and a moving National Anthem by the LCDS Show Choir. Performances from multiple grade levels followed, each crafted to honor the courage of those who served.

One of the most unforgettable moments came when students hosted veterans in their classrooms, listening to stories of bravery, dedication, and service. The day wrapped up with a luncheon held in their honor, filled with smiles, conversation, and gratitude.

This year’s attendees included veterans and active-duty members from across the LCDS community—Board of Trustees members, parents, grandparents, alumni, uncles, friends, and more. Across generations, the LCDS campus became a place of pride, remembrance, and deep appreciation.

At LCDS, Veterans Day is more than an event. It is a celebration of gratitude — and a powerful reminder of the heroes among us.
