Philosophy
The purpose of Loudoun Country Day School is to educate and develop each student academically, physically, artistically, socially, and emotionally. We believe that education begins in infancy and continues throughout life, and we are privileged to carry on the process begun in the home during the years when an individual's potential for learning is at its highest. Our goal is to discover that potential and develop it to its fullest through an excellent student-teacher ratio, attention to individual needs, pedagogy that varies according to instructional objectives, and an atmosphere of respect and love.
Our academic program emphasizes the development of strong basic skills in communication (reading, writing, speaking, listening), reasoning (mathematics, science, computers), culture (history, art, music, drama), and foreign languages. We strive to develop our students' abilities and disposition to think creatively and critically as they learn.
The physical development of our students completes their educational program at Loudoun Country Day School. We are proud of our physical education program, particularly our emphasis on skill development, teamwork, sportsmanship and the importance of exercise in leading a healthy, productive life.
The major academic strength of the school resides in the faculty. They are chosen for professional ability, personal integrity, dedication, and capacity for promoting a nurturing environment. They lead by example as well as words, and they emphasize the importance of mutual respect and individual worth. We expect Loudoun Country Day School students to develop into principled individuals, who respect and enjoy learning, and seek to acquire skills necessary for those higher pursuits while demonstrating care and concern for others.
