This is the second year for our new Language Arts program for 7th and 8th grades. The primary goal of this program is to create a strong cross-curricular connection between Language Arts and at least one other subject. This gives students the chance to experience deeper and more meaningful learning.
7th grade:
The Language Arts program is connected to the 7th grade Life Science curriculum. We use science topics such as the characteristics of living things, cells, genetics and heredity, ecology, and evolution as springboards into related fiction and non-fiction reading, writing, and speaking activities.
8th grade:
For 8th Grade, the connection is with the U.S. history they are studying with Mr. Beauchemin. We step through the chronology of U.S. history through historical novels, essays, and non-fiction readings to enhance and further explore the students’ understanding of, and connection to, our history.
I encourage you to read the books along with your student, and to discuss them at home. Students at this age have many very interesting insights and ideas!
