Gift Giving
Fundraising
LCDS is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt nonprofit organization. Therefore, charitable gifts to LCDS are tax deductible in accordance with the IRS. As an independent school, Loudoun Country Day School does not receive financial support from Federal, State or local governments. Tuition income alone does not cover the cost of educating our students and running the school. In fact, tuition and fees only cover 86% of the actual costs of educating each child. As a nonprofit organization, the Loudoun Country Day School depends on tax-deductible contributions from parents, parents of alumni, grandparents, alumni and friends to provide the only other income for the school. This income comes through The Annual Giving Campaign, Capital Gifts, Endowment (created from past gifts), and special opportunities sponsored by the LCDS Parents' Association.
Ways to Make a Gift to LCDS
There are many ways of making contributions to charitable organizations. It is important that donors are aware of their options so that each individual can make his/her gift with the type of assets most suited to their own financial situation.
Cash Gifts
The school gratefully accepts cash gifts and is also able to accept contributions via VISA and MasterCard. A cash gift entitles the donor to an income tax deduction in the year of the gift. The school will provide a letter for your tax deduction.
Securities
Appreciated securities are perhaps the best form of assets to use in making a charitable gift. In most cases, an outright gift of appreciated securities entitles the donor to an income tax charitable deduction for the fair market value of the securities, and, in the case of securities which have been held for more than 18 months, the avoidance of capital gains tax.
Matching Gifts
Matching Gift companies may double or triple your gift. to LCDS. Please check to see if your company has such a program. They will provide you with a form that you will send in with your gift.
